9 Proven Strategies To Take Massive Action In 2024

Massive goals require massive action.

If you are looking to push beyond normal human expectations of success in life, business, or beyond, you can’t just keep doing what everyone else is doing.

So here are 9 proven strategies to take massive action to achieve exceptional goals.

9 Strategies to Take Massive Action

#1 Know Your Big Why

Before you even set your massive goal, you need to understand your purpose—often called your big why.

Make it big. Your driving purpose behind all of your action needs to be motivating and worthy of your attention…

NOT “I need to lose weight,” but “I’m sick of looking in the mirror and being disgusted at who I see”.

NOT “I want a good quarterly evaluation,” but “I want to be recognized as an invaluable member of the team”.

You get the idea. Once you’ve identified your big why, plaster it anywhere possible. Post it on your fridge, your bathroom mirror, your screen saver—anywhere.

#2 Set a Massive Goal

Once you understand your purpose, it’s time to set a big goal that will help you fulfill that purpose. To ensure that you’ll be taking massive action, you want to make your goal bigger than you think it should be. After all, you don’t get what you want from life by aiming for average.

Good goals are SMART:

  • Specific. The goal clearly addresses your desired outcome and is tied into your big why. It answers all the who, what, where, when, and why questions. (Example: Don’t say “My goal is to climb the corporate ladder.” Say “My goal is to make myself such a valued member of the company that I’ll be asked to apply for the next manager position that opens up.”)
  • Measurable. The goal has a clear success or fail state. You’ll be able to evaluate your progress honestly. (Example: “My goal is to lose 10 pounds.”)
  • Achievable. The goal is actually possible given your current circumstances, abilities, and situation. Since it’s a massive goal, it should stretch you beyond your limits, while still remaining within the realm of possibility. (Example: If you can’t do a single pull-up, it’s not very achievable to do 20 of them within a month).
  • Relevant. The goal is aligned to your big why, and it makes sense for you to focus on now. (Example: Don’t set goals for yourself that are really tasks that you can outsource to other people).
  • Timebound. The goal has a due date. Psychologically speaking, the human brain responds well to deadlines, and you’ll be more likely to take action on your goal when you know there is an end game. (Example: “I want to make partner at the firm within my first five years.”)

#3 Break Your Goal Down Into Milestones

Once you have your big goal set in stone, it’s time to get serious about planning how you are going to achieve it. People don’t lose 30 pounds overnight. They lose it one pound at a time, one meal at a time, and one exercise at a time.

So look at your goal and your due date. Then break the work down into reasonable milestones, each a tiny little SMART goal of its own.

#4 Identify Predictable Challenges

Things always go sideways one way or another. But often, we can predict the hurdles, setbacks, and challenges that will try to prevent our massive actions from coming to fruition.

For example, if you set a goal to create a side hustle that will earn you $1000 per month within the next year, you can examine your own vices to find areas of weakness that will hold you back.

Do you have a tendency to binge Netflix?

Are you addicted to video games?

Do you waste too much time on social media?

Challenges like this will likely hold you back from building your side business because they are intense time sucks. They eat away at your schedule and sleep until you have little room left to pursue your dreams.

And regardless of your goal, you can likely identify other predictable hurdles that you need to cut off now before they become a problem.

#5 Prepare For Unpredictable Challenges

Of course, there are also the setbacks that we can’t predict.

A relocation negates months of office relationship building. A change in the market disrupts our expected supply/demand curve. A personal emergency throws our mindset through the emotional wringer.

While you can’t take action now to prevent or head off these unpredictable challenges, you can prepare yourself for them. Whether it’s practicing meditation, surrendering yourself to a higher power, developing your stoicism, or something else—you need to get your mindset in a place that allows you to react flexibly under pressure that would normally break other people.

#6 Cut Out Harmful Work

Challenges aren’t the only things that will keep you from achieving your goals. There is also no end to the amount of actual work that appears helpful but is actually holding you back.

For example, many people who are trying to get in shape start first by altering their diet. But having to make healthy meals day in and day out wears out their reserve so much that they backslide when life gets stressful. Instead of feeling like they need to make every healthy meal themselves, they can prevent burn out by outsourcing some or all of their meal prep.

You can do the same no matter what your goal is. There are always tasks in business, life, health, and even relationships that can be outsourced or cut out entirely so that they don’t waste your time and drain your energy.

#7 Create a Massive Action Plan

If you’re not familiar with it, the Tony Robbins Massive Action Plan provides the perfect model to help people get the things they want and need to achieve success. You can access a template for Tony Robbins’ plan here, and it basically involves answering three simple questions:

  • What are the outcomes you want to achieve?
  • Why do you want to achieve these outcomes?
  • What actions do you need to take in order to make this happen?

#8 Assess Your Progress As You Go

Of course, as you are taking massive action towards your goals, you are going to want to reflect on how things are going from time to time. Put self-assessment on your schedule, and do it regularly. If your goal spans 6 months, for example, you might evaluate your progress every 2 to 4 weeks.

Keep the measurable outcomes that you defined in mind, as well as your milestones, so that you can provide yourself with an honest account of how you are doing. If you have a mentor, they should be involved in this process as much as possible as well.

#9 Adjust Course As Needed

Based on your assessments, you may need to modify your goal, milestones, action plan, or otherwise. Taking this step may feel like you are admitting defeat, but really you can just think of it like a doctor changing your prescription. When one course of treatment doesn’t work, the most reasonable decision is to try something new.
