You’re about to discover what “if it’s meant to be, it will be” means and why it’s a useful mindset to help you achieve success, happiness and fulfilment in life.
As part of my life coaching services, I am often helping people work towards certain goals and this is an idea that often comes up along the way.
That’s why I’m excited to write this guide for you.
I hope you find it useful.
Let’s dive in.
If It’s Meant To Be, It Will Happen
This is an idea I’m often sharing with my life coach clients who don’t feel as if they’re where they want to be in their lives.
But what does it really mean?
It certainly doesn’t mean that you can spend each day sitting on your butt waiting for your hopes and dreams to come true.
More accurately, it suggests that if you try your hardest to realize a dream and it doesn’t happen, there’s a positive reason why.
A higher power – whether that’s God or The Universe – had a better plan for you.
You weren’t meant to reach the end of the path you were on. It was meant to take you elsewhere.
God Makes No Mistakes
The concept of “if it’s meant to be, it will happen” is based on the idea that God or The Universe (or whatever higher power you believe in) has a predetermined journey for us. This destiny is widely accepted to be the best for our spiritual growth, because God loves us all and God makes no mistakes.
When we fail to reach a goal that we wanted so badly, it’s encouraging to remind ourselves of this idea.
Sometimes, God gives us challenges. Sometimes, he forces us to be patient until it feels like we can’t take anymore. But he’ll only challenge us for the greater good and he’ll only serve us challenges we’re capable of overcoming.
This helps us see our failure as a blessing as a disguise and puts us in a frame of mind to get back up and continue moving forward in life with a positive attitude.

Everything Is A Lesson
You might view success as 100% good and failure as 100% bad, but it’s rarely that simple.
It’s arguably more accurate to view everything as a lesson taking you closer to what’s meant to be.
Sylvester Stallone is one high-profile example of an actor who was dirt-poor and turned down for endless roles before getting his big break. There are countless more.
Perhaps he looked at actors getting their big break at childhood and young adulthood with envy, or maybe he’d at least wonder why the Universe wouldn’t make things happen for him.
The truth is: he was meant to lead a life of struggle first. This would teach him to appreciate the big-time when he eventually made it and will give him the fortitude to stay there throughout the rest of his career.
We could compare that to several child movie-stars who got everything they ever wanted from a young age, only to see their life come crashing down later on. This is a lesson they were meant to learn too, albeit a different one from Stallone.
The point is: when you have the right attitude, every failure is creating a lesson that can help you succeed more later on in life.
It may be a lesson that aids you with a different skill or pushes you towards a different path.
Perhaps it will teach you to be more patient, build stronger relationships or put in more effort to develop your skill.
Either way, reminding yourself that “if it’s meant to be, it will happen” is a great way to ensure you develop the right attitude in the face of adversity.

Embrace Where You Are
One of the easiest ways to ensure you’re unhappy in the present moment is to wish you were further ahead in your life’s journey.
Here’s the thing about that; those who adopt the “I’ll be happy when” attitude tend to keep it, even when they’re reached their goal. Usually, they find they’re still not satisfied, so they upgrade their “I’ll be happy when” terms, hoping that reaching a new goal will finally satisfy them. But it rarely does. More likely, they’ll endlessly delay their happiness until they’re dead.
Meanwhile, those who focus on where they are right now can learn to be happy right now with a lot less.
A great way to embrace where you are is to adopt the “if it’s meant to be, it will be” mindset.
Once you realize that God wants you to be exactly where you are in this moment, it becomes easier to enjoy the present and be optimistic about the future.
Those Who Rush To The Top Rarely Stay There
We all want to rush to gain the success we desire as soon as possible.
However, it’s rarely ideal to catch that mother of lucky breaks and reach the top too quickly.
Often, you haven’t developed the skills, nor the attitude to remain at the top forever. Normally, you don’t appreciate the high life, because you haven’t experienced enough of the struggle to get there. What’s more, a lot of people become depressed because they have nothing else to aim for.
We all think we’re ready for that big break before we actually are.
However, if we could learn to slow down and embrace the present moment, we’d all find it easier to learn the lessons that make you ready for a brighter future.
Life Is Not A Journey
Goals give us direction in life, which makes us more fulfilled and motivated to make things happen.
In many ways, that’s a good thing. That gives meaning to our lives and allows society to progress.
However, there’s also a relevant argument that life shouldn’t be seen as a journey to a particular destination.
When you see your life that way, you’re in great danger of falling into the “I’ll be happy when” trap, only to realize you’re still not happy once you reach your supposed finish line.
Many philosophers argue that it’s better to see life as a dance, with no real end goal other than the dance itself. Perhaps it’s better to see the world as a funfair ride to play on and enjoy with your friends, rather than a carpool taking you to a specific end goal.
With this attitude, you can learn to enjoy your life regardless of whether you’ve got that new job or bought that speedboat.
Sure, you can still work hard to achieve a goal, because this does give you a sense of meaning and fulfilment. It does make the world a better place. But with the attitude that life is a dance, you can find it to enjoy the process of working towards your goals, rather than only being satisfied at the chequered flag.
If Its Meant To Be It Will Be Meaning In Relationship
You can adopt the same line of thinking about your romantic relationships. In fact, it’s arguably beneficial to do so.
After all, what happens when you’re too desperate for a particular outcome in dating? Nearly always, you creep out the person you admire and scare them off!
However, when you adopt a more relaxed attitude of “if it’s meant to be, it will be”, you’re far more likely to attract your dream partner than intimidate them.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t put in any effort to find someone or fight to make a relationship work! But I’m also not saying you should force a relationship that isn’t meant to be, no matter how much you love this person.
You can be disappointed when it doesn’t work out with a potential lover or friend. But you can also take comfort in the fact that the Universe has a better plan for both of you.
Your ‘failed’ relationship will help prepare you for success in one that was meant to succeed. You’ll just need to wait a little longer.
